InfoQuest System User Guide (IQMNT)

Administer InfoQuest with IQMNT: register applications and users, build views and DBMs, manage QINDEX, and run host-side utilities.

Last updated September 1, 2000

What IQMNT is for

IQMNT is the host-side maintenance program for InfoQuest. MIS staff use it to register applications, register users, define views, generate DBMs, build QINDEX entries, and run utilities. End users never touch IQMNT — they go through InfoQuest Client.

Setup walkthrough

  1. Register an application in IQMNT
  2. Register one or more users to that application
  3. Create the data item index file
  4. Establish a view that exposes records and fields to end users
  5. Generate the DBM that ties the view to the underlying data

Security and registration

  • External Configuration Generation — site-wide settings
  • Application Registration — declare an application and its data sources
  • User Registration — bind users to applications and capabilities
  • Debug Request — capture diagnostic information for a single request

QINDEX

QINDEX is the cross-reference index InfoQuest uses to resolve data items. Create it for RDMS or for MAPPER RIDs, list its contents to verify, and use the QINDEX Stripper to remove obsolete entries.

Views

  • View Generation, Maintenance, and Global Changes
  • Occurring Item Maintenance for repeating fields
  • View Validation, Duplication, and Deletion
  • User Prompt Definitions and Translation Tables
  • View Copy Utility for moving views between environments

Utilities

  • Application Import / Export — move whole applications between sites
  • Make COBOL File Defs — generate COBOL FDs from the view
  • Make or Change File — create or alter the underlying file definition
  • Log Utility — review the InfoQuest activity log
Note: Run a demonstration/validation cycle after every major change so end users see consistent results in InfoQuest Client.
