Component Configuration overview

Component Configuration is the administrator's workbench for T27 eXpress Enterprise. It manages screens, keyboards, character translations, appearance schemes, connections, and the user-restriction model — all in one place.

  • File… — open, save, and switch the configuration set you are editing.
  • Available Screens — list of every screen defined for this configuration.
  • Other Settings — global options that apply to every screen.

Edit Screen Settings

Screen Connection tab

Defines the route to the host: station name, terminal type, virtual destination, gateway settings (when using HGS), and SSL options.

Screen Settings tab

Per-screen behaviour — rows, columns, pages, video defaults, and the appearance/keyboard/translation table to bind to this screen.

Character Translation

  • Select / Create Translation Tables — pick an existing table or start a new one.
  • Edit Character Translation Table — map host code points to display characters.
  • Import / Export — move tables between configurations.

Visual Keyboard Layout

  • New / Rename / Delete / Default — manage the catalogue of layouts.
  • Import / Export / Print — share layouts and produce printed cheat-sheets.
  • Available Keyboards — list of layouts in the configuration.
  • Graphic Keyboard — visual editor for assigning keys.
  • Terminal Keys / Script Activation Keys / Macro Activation Keys tabs — classify what each binding triggers.
  • Type a Key Sequence → Set / Clear Key Assignment — capture a key combination and bind it.
  • Conflicts — flagged automatically; resolve duplicates before saving.

Add or Redefine Key

Use Add to bind a new key, Redefine to replace an existing binding, and Help for inline reference. Both flows reuse the same capture-and-confirm pattern.

Screen Appearance Configuration

  • New / Rename / Delete / Default / Import / Export — manage appearance schemes.
  • Available Schemes — list of saved appearance presets.
  • Select Color for Screen Attribute — set foreground/background per T27 attribute.
  • Screen Font Settings and Automatic Font Scaling — font face/size and how the client scales them when the window resizes.
  • Apply — push the selected scheme to the configuration.

Settings Location and User Restrictions

Change Settings Location moves the configuration between per-user and All Users storage, separately for Screen and General Settings vs. Connection Settings. User Restriction Settings, with eXpress User Capabilities at a Glance and Configuration Lock, control which features end users can use and which dialogs they can open. Enable/Disable Features toggles individual capabilities.

eXpress Connections Configuration

  • Mouse Actions and Menus / Tool Bar Buttons — the same visual configuration model used by eXpress Connect.
  • Virtual Destinations — list of network endpoints used by screens.

Edit Virtual Destination

  • Virtual Destination ID — friendly name.
  • IP Address and Edit IP Address, IP Port ID — endpoint and port.
  • Connection Type — direct TCP/IP or KMSYS Host Gateway Server.
  • SSL Options — protocol, certificate selection, and verification behaviour.

Miscellaneous

Error Handling settings determine how the emulator surfaces and recovers from connection or configuration errors. Tune them to match your support process before locking the configuration.
