What the Print Service Manager does
The Print Service Manager runs T27 print environments alongside (or instead of) the interactive emulator. Each environment binds a host print device to a Windows printer; the manager starts, stops, traces, and reports status for every environment from a single window.
File menu
- Start Printer / Stop Printer — toggle the selected service.
- Configure Printer — change the configuration of the selected printer environment.
- Hide to Tray on Minimize — when set, the manager icon goes to the Windows system tray on minimise; otherwise it stays on the task bar.
- Add Printer — define a new printer environment.
- Delete Printer — remove the selected environment.
- Change Settings Location — switch between per-user and shared (all-users) configuration storage.
- Close — exit the manager (does not stop running services unless you stop them first).
View menu
Show Selected Print Service opens the PTS dialog for the highlighted environment. PTS shows status, total bytes printed, and bytes printed since the service started. If the environment was configured with a trace option, the same selection initiates the configured trace.
Settings location
Settings can live in the per-user Windows registry or in a shared location used by every user on the workstation. Use shared settings for kiosks and shared print stations; use per-user when each operator needs their own routing.
Operational tips
- Stop print services before changing their configuration — the change won't take effect until the service restarts.
- Use Hide to Tray to keep the manager out of the user's way while still leaving it accessible.
- Trace one environment at a time during troubleshooting; transport-level traces produce large files quickly.
